Teaching Plan

I Teaching Aims

Knowledge aims

1. Students can master the format and the meaning of the news.

2. Students can learn how to write a piece of news.

1. Students will be able to write a piece of news in their daily life.

2. Students’ writing abilities will be improved by the end of the class.

1. Students will be more interested in learning English.

2. Students will be more concerned about news.

II Teaching Key &Difficult Points

Key point: The format and the meaning of news.

Difficult point: How to write news themselves in daily life.

III Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming up

1. Daily greeting

2. Show a video about Nixon’ s visit to China.

Let students watch a video about a piece of news about Nixon’ s visit to China. Then invite some of students to tell me what they can hear from the video. Then give a question to the whole class: Do you know how to write a piece of short news?

Step 2: Pre-writing

1. Observe and think

Let students read the passage carefully and then try to find the features of the passage.

2. Discuss and share

Ask students to read the passage again and then give them two questions: What information can we write in the first paragraph and what is the main idea of the second paragraph? Then divide them into group of four and ask them to discuss with their teammates. They need to make a simple conclusion. After that, invite one or two groups to share their conclusion to the class.

3. Teach and learn

Evaluate their conclusions simply and then tell them that the passage is from a piece of news. Then teach them the format and the meaning of a piece of news and explain how to write a piece of news.

Step 3: While-writing

Ask them to write a piece of short news about a celebrity’s s visit to China according to the passage they’ve learned. they will have 15minutes.

Then tell them to pay attention to the spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Step 4: Post-writing

Peer-editing

Ask students to change their news with their desk mates and do a peer-editing. Then invite several students to show their news to the class. Evaluate them in details and point out the advantages and the advantages.

Step 5: Summary & Homework

Summary: Invite one of the students to review what we have learned and others make a supplement together.

Homework: Ask students to continue to revise their news and then share it with their friends.
